OT: Who should I be mad at? |
Lead | ||
|
I have a mailbox where I get mail for my work and some personal stuff too. I went in today to pick up two packages I was expecting only to find a third box,
open at the top, with a flower arrangement in it. It had been delivered on Monday. At first I was happy because I had received flowers but as I walked to my
car with all my stuff I started to get mad as I thought about these things sitting there since Monday and knowing they only had another day or two of life in
them. Then I got mad at the people at my mail place for accepting these things knowing that I only come in once or twice and week AND they knew I had been
sick and had surgery this past month and hadn't been in much at all. Then I got mad at the florist for thinking they could leave flowers for someone at a
mailbox place. How stupid is that! They had to know there was good chance I wouldn't get them for days. So who is responsible here. The flowers came
from someone I helped out who looked up my address on the internet I guess and they had no idea it was a mailbox place. I'm just so mad that they spent a
lot of money and these flowers sat around for 5 days without anyone enjoying them. I feel like I need to call and yell at someone but I'm not sure
who's at fault. I love my mailbox place people and have a good relationship with them so I hate to yell at them but why did they accept flower???? But
why did the florist LEAVE flowers at a mailbox place? Ugh. I just hate stupid stuff like this. So who do I call and yell at?

IHO I would just enjoy what time the flowers have left (freshen them by cutting the bottom of the stems and put in fresh water). Your friend extended a
gracious gesture. The florist delivered to the address they were given.
Does the post box company call you if you have a special delivery? |

I agree with Suzi.... the gesture was very kind.
My Brother's Best Friend worked at one of those mail box places for YEARS (he is a DJ) and you would not BELIEVE the stories he has to say about what was delivered (once LIVE baby chicks!) and the frequency people came in (Some would come in for mail delivery, then UPS delivery, then Fed Ex delivery... ON the SAME DAY!!). At the end of the day, he learned to survive by asking VERY few questions and realizing that different strokes rule the world... But I understand your frustration... I would talk to the clerk that knows you the best and ask him/her to put a note on your file saying that if you ever receive something perishable (flowers, fruits, meats, etc...) to please have them contact you at X number (and then hand them a sticky note with the number to they can put it in your file right then and there). --Dommy! |

Agree with the other two...It's easy to want to blame someone, especially since you missed out, but the florist and the mailbox place each did their job,
really. I would just let it go this time, let the mail box place know to contact you if a special/perishable delivery comes for you in the future, and enjoy
the gesture of the person who sent them.

I would absolutely speak to both parties.....you will have to eat this one, but this is totally unacceptable..you cant blame them yet the stupidity is
outrageous. Just my 2 cents.

I agree to try not to be "mad" at someone but I see it as the sender's goof.

Ok. I'll not be mad. You guys are no fun at all!
I will talk to
my mailbox place next week and make sure they have my phone number so they can call me next time.
The person who sent these flowers is actually pretty much a complete stranger. A banker I know asked me to review an appraisal of a friend's home who had been denied a loan because the appraisal was low. I reviewed it and told him it was a crap appraisal and how to fight it. They challenged it and the appraiser changed the value and they got their loan. The big problem now is that I supposedly got these flowers on Monday and haven't emailed him to thank him or acknowledged them in any way. Now on top of angry I am embarrassed because dude thinks I am a manner-less cow. I don't want him to know I didn't get them on Monday so I will suck it up and just apologize for taking so long to say thanks. On a happy note the flowers still look good today so maybe they will make it through the weekend and I will get a few days of enjoyment out of them.

How annoying - my old apartment building used to handle deliveries like that so badly. Last May, BF had a chocolate fondanty cake delivered since he
couldn't come to graduation. It was delivered one day around 10am and I was never notified. Meanwhile, he kept asking me if I had gotten a surprise in the
mail and I was terrified that I accidentally threw a card out. He called my front desk and chewed them out and 2 minutes later, I got a phone call to come
down. By the time it got to me, the entire ice pack had melted - since it was the next day, next afternoon. I let my building have it and they were somewhat
better after that. Luckily, the cake was not spoiled, but notifying me a day and a half later was not acceptable.

I think both the flower shop and the mail box place are guilty of, I don't know, apathy? My sister is a florist and never allows deliveries to be made to
one of those mail places, the arrangement goes back to her shop and she contacts the sender immediately.
But how lovely to receive flowers unexpectedly. Such a nice gesture.

I don't know that I would be "mad" at anyone, but I am very surprised by the florist. I don't get many flowers delivered, but Ursula ALWAYS
gets birthday flowers from her uncle. We always get a call first and if we're not home, there's always a follow up "we left flowers on your
porch" message.
